CQTAis the Local Union that holds the bargaining certificates with the Central Québec School Board (CQSB). It is federated with the Québec Provincial Association of Teachers (QPAT) that represents teachers in the Quebec English school system. Mission Statement The role of CQTA is to ensure the protection of teachers’ negotiated rights at both the provincial and local levels. Moreover, CQTA promotes professionalism, growth and the autonomy of teachers in order to foster a positive learning environment for our students. Membership CQTA represents close to 300 equivalent full-time teachers working for the CQSB. Though most of these teachers work in the regular youth sector, a few of our members work in adult education and in the technical-vocational sector. Operation CQTA covers a large territory. This territory is divided into seven sectors represented by regional directors. The Québec City area has four directors while Chibougamau, Jonquière, La Tuque, Schefferville, Shawinigan, Thetford Mines, and Trois-Rivières each have one. These eleven directors form CQTA's Board of Directors. Each school teaching staff also annually elects a school representative. CQTA has no permanent staff. The day to day operations are performed by the President who receives only part-time release for syndical duties. CQTA has a special services agreement with the Québec Provincial Association of Teachers. Our members may at any time communicate directly with our resource person at QPAT. There are no particular hierarchical links in CQTA. Any teacher's concerns or questions may be addressed to the school representative, a regional director, the CQTA president, or the QPAT resource person at the provincial level. Executive and Board of Directors The eleven regional directors choose among themselves CQTA's President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Each is elected for one year except for the President, whose term is two years. The duties of the Executive officers are outlined in our constitution. Representatives The school representatives are the first line of contact between individual members and our union. Their tasks are wide and varied, not the least of which is to supervise the application of the Collective Agreements between the CQTA and the representative of the employer in his/her school. Committees According to our provincial and local collective agreements, CQTA members form part of the following committees: School Level
School Board Level
Provincial Level
Schools The teachers of the CQTA work in one or more of the schools administered by the CQSB. The CQTA ConstitutionThe Constitution lays out the nature, aims, structure, and rules of our organization. It guides our members in decision-making, elections, procedures, and stuctural changes.
